Hello everyone and thanks for stopping by Bronx Baseball Daily as the Yankees take on the Phillies in Yankee Stadium for game 2 of the 2009 World Series.
The Yankees are trying to tie the series at one apiece after running into a very hot Cliff Lee last night. There were some frustrating points to that game, but overall they were lucky just to score a single run.
Here are your lineups for tonight’s game:
Starting pitcher: RHP AJ Burnett
Jimmy Rollins, SS
Shane Victorino CF
Chase Utley 2B
Ryan Howard 1B
Jayson Werth RF
Raul Ibanez LF
Matt Stairs DH
Pedro Feliz 3B
Carlos Ruiz C
Starting pitcher: RHP Pedro Martinez
Questions: Well there are plenty of good story lines for this game:
Will the Yankees bats rebound after being totally overpowered last night?
Will we see the Pedro Martinez of old or a 38-year-old version that just kind of looks like him?
Will the lineup changes work or will they just blow up in Girardi’s face?
Thoughts: It is kind of sad to hear so many people make it sound like this series is over after just one game. From what I can remember not a lot of people were picking the Yankees in four and there is no shame losing to a team’s ace.
On that note, I don’t feel like tonight is a “must win.” I’ve seen too much baseball to think that and I know this team is good enough that they can come back from down 0-2. So if that happens I will not be running around like a freshman from Drexel (A college in Philly) who’s late for her period.
The Yankees are having quite a bit of bullpen problems and with Burnett on the mound it is possible they might get a chance to redeem themselves. Phil Hughes was too good during the season for me to give up on him now. That happens sometimes, guys just have bad outings. I know he’s had more than a few, but that also happens.
I would love to see the Yankees destroy Pedro tonight though. Although part of me thinks that if they beat him too badly it could force the Phillies to go with Cliff Lee for three starts instead of two if they don’t trust Pedro to throw another game. So maybe 10 runs in three innings is overdoing it.
H.O.V.A: Don’t forget about Jay-Z’s pre-game performance that should start at about 7:30.
Head-to-head this season: ThePhillies took the first game in the series, but that was behind a great performance by their ace. Things are different tonight, let’s see if the Yankees capitalize.
Weather: There is no threat of rain tonight, but it is really cold and somewhat windy in New York. Hopefully it won’t effect that game too much. Or at least let’s hope it won’t effect the Yankees too much.
Keep checking back for some updates, discussion, and maybe even some debate.
