Sabathia Gets Game 4 Nod

According to Chad Jennings of the Journal News, Yankees manager Joe Girardi has made it official and will go with his ace CC Sabathia on short rest in game four which will allow him to pitch in game seven if the series goes that far.

“He’s had success going on short rest if you look at last year’s numbers, so we’re comfortable doing it,” Girardi said.

Sabathia pitched four games for the Brewers on short rest last season and pitched well until the playoffs where he allowed five earned runs in 3.2 innings. The three regular season games he pitched on short rest his numbers were good, 2-1, 21.2 IP, 21 K’s, 4 BB, 0.83 ERA, 2 ER.

The Yankees have been preparing him for just this same situation all season by keeping Sabathia rested all season. Also, allowing by him throwing in game four it lines him up to pitch game seven, if needed, on regular rest. Chad Gaudin is also going to be needed in the bullpen on Monday as a lot of relievers pitched last night. This allows him to be available.
