AJ Burnett Ready if Needed

According to Mark Feinsand of the Daily News, Yankees starting pitcher AJ Burnett will be available out of the bullpen starting tonight since he only threw 53 pitches in his last start during game 5 of the World Series against Philly.

“I just want the ball again,” Burnett said. “Hopefully they won’t need me, but I’ll do whatever they need. If I get the ball again, that would be great. Whatever they need, I’m ready.”

Manager Joe Girardi did say that it was doubtful that he would use Burnett tonight unless it were an emergency. It is more likely that Burnett would be used during game 7 if needed.

Burnett has not pitched as a reliever since an extra innings game last season. He has four relief appearances during his career in which he has had a 11.12 ERA and allowed nine hits and four walks in 5.2 innings.
