Cashman To Meet with John Lackey's Agent

john-lackeyAccording to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, Brian Cashman is going to meet with John Lackey‘s agent Steve Hilliard during the Winter Meetings in Indianapolis today.

The Yankees have been connected to Lackey throughout this offseason, but they are not expected to make an offer which would probably start at AJ Burnett‘s five-years and $82 million deal and quickly move north. Things could change and we will keep you posted if they do, but it’s unlikely.

If the Yankees are hoping to keep payroll south of $200 million like they said it’s going to be nearly impossible to add any other outfielders or pitchers if they add Lackey. That means if they get Lackey there will be no Johnny Damon, no Hideki Matsui, no Mike Cameron, and certainly no Matt Holliday.
