Did I Really Just See Chien-Ming Wang Throw a Pitch Lefty?

Yes. It really happened. Chien-Ming Wang threw the best eephus pitch of his life 14 seconds in. Even The Great Bambino would have been caught looking on that one.

Oh, and don’t ask me what the announcers are saying. I haven’t the slightest clue.

There is also some news to go along with this video. Ken Davidoff is reporting the Yankees are likely to non-tender Wang. Wang just started to throw on flat ground in his recovery from shoulder surgery, making him doubtful to be ready for opening day in 2010.

Note: Wang has completely fallen off the Yankees’ radar ever since he injured his leg in Houston back in ‘08.

I feel really bad for the guy. He’s probably Taiwan’s biggest star in baseball, and he wasn’t even somewhat valuable to the Yankees in their championship season.

Nobody has mentioned the idea of Wang as the fourth starter in 2010.

  1. Matt Imbrogno says:

Nobody's mentioned Wang as the fourth starter because it's a situation that's next to impossible. Even if he had pitched brilliantly before being shut down with an injury this season, no one would be mentioning it. He may not even be Major League ready til mid-season, so no one is–nor should anyone be–counting on anything baseball-related out of Wang in 2010. Anything he gives to whatever team he's with will be a bonus.

  2. Apparently James Andrews told him he was progressing in his rehab to quickly and that he ought to shut it down. That's not the best sign. Maybe he was just being cautious though.
