Heavy Praise for Montero

Via RAB, I came across an article at Project Prospect comparing the Indians’ top catching prospect Carlos Santana and Yankees top catching prospect Jesus Montero.

The author, Adam Foster, ran down the pluses and minuses of each player and at the end, came to the conclusion that even though Santana, and Giants’ catching prospect Buster Posey probably have more value in 2010 than Montero does, but going forward, Montero is the one who will be the best bet. He ends the piece with this:

I see Jesus Montero as a potential once-in-a-generation force on offense

Obviously, those types of talents do not come easy. The Yankees are lucky to have Montero and would be wise to hold on to him. At only 20 years old, Montero has an entire world of potential in front of him, ready to be unlocked. I cannot wait to see what The Jesus can do at the Major League level.

  1. I don't know if this is possible, but I wonder if he's a possibility as a mid-season call-up. Maybe during the second half he can split time with Jorge behind the plate. That's probably wishful thinking though, but I do think he can be a solid piece by 2011.
