According to Anthony McCarron of the Daily News, the Yankees have put in a call to the agent of right-handed reliever Matt Capps. His agent said “there’s nothing close” but said they’re still listening taking offers. He added that there are teams being mroe aggressive.
Capps was non-tendered by the Pittsburgh Pirates, mostly for monetary reasons, but he did struggle in 2009 after dealing with arm issues the year before. He could be one of the top available free agent relievers on the market, but is more likely to sign with a team looking for a close than with the Yankees.
