Royals Interested in Brett Gardner

brett-gardnerAccording to Jayson Stark of ESPN, after the Yankees acquired Curtis Granderson from the Tigers, the Royals asked them about the availability of backup center fielder Brett Gardner.

Neither Stark nor MLB Trade Rumors really had much information as to how far this went, but if the Yankees are serious about cutting payroll Melky Cabrera is the guy that they’re probably going to have to deal. Melky earned $1.4 million last season and is due a raise so he should make about $3 million in 2010. It’s not much, but it could be the difference between being over or under the $200 million threshold the Yankees are looking to stick to.

Sorry for the lack of info. If we hear more, we’ll be sure to pass it along.
