Xavier Nady is a Cub

According to Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports, free agent outfielder Xavier Nady has signed with the Chicago Cubs pending a physical. Via Jon Heyman we get the contract details – one-year $3.3 million guaranteed plus $2 million in games played incentives.

Not a bad deal for a guy coming off his second Tommy John surgery. Although depending on what the actual levels of incentives are he might not make all of them as he will be more of a fourth outfielder for the Cubs.

This is good news and bad news for Yankee fans. The bad news obviously is that Nady won’t be back in the Bronx next year, but the good news is that with Nady going to Chicago another free agent, outfielder Reed Johnson, has one less attractive destination making it more likely that he becomes a Yankee.

  1. I guess Damon will be the only suitable OF'er left for the Yankees to go after. I wonder if this was Cashmans plan all along, Free Agency by attrition…

  2. Steve B. says:

Boras is such a $#@%&^$&#*, that the Yankees and Damon should get together, wothout Boras, a la A-Rod did in 2007….If that doesn't work, then sign Reed Johnson and move on..

I agree with you Steve, but I don’t see it happening right now. Maybe that will change.
