Yankees Made No Offer to Hairston

According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Yankees never made an official offer to super-sub Jerry Hairston Jr, who appears to be headed to San Diego.

This is interesting because Hairston was definitely on their shortlist for bench candidates and if they didn’t offer him a contract than that means he was not at the top. General manager Brian Cashman did say that the bench will come together slowly, but with just about 31 days until Spring Training starts it does have to come together soon.

If they aren’t offering a deal to Hairston then who are they talking to? Well Olney tells us that there has been no contact with Johnny Damon recently so that means they’re probably discussing bringing in Rocco Baldelli, Reed Johnson or someone else. We don’t have any solid leads yet, just that there has been mutual interest with Baldelli, but like I said there isn’t much time left in the offseason so something is going to happen soon.
