Welcome to this week’s edition of Minor League Monday. Spring Training will be wrapping up soon and it’s time to start thinking Minor League Baseball. A few things you can expect to see with the return of Minor League Baseball: A weekly win/loss tracker for all the Yankees organizational teams as well as a sole player of the week for the entire system. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to do one for each league…but it won’t be happening at this time.
Moving on, let’s take a look at the transactions from March 7th-15th.

Repairs Needed at PNC Field Before Start of Triple-A Season
This one may not be player specific, but it caught my eye in the local paper here in Scranton. The Lackawanna County Multi-Purpose Stadium Authority voted to spent 30,000 dollars to make appropriate repairs to PNC Field to remove mold as well as fix water damage in the luxury suites at PNC Field. According to the article, 12 of the 19 suites will be repaired.
Due to the recent turmoil here in Scranton with former Commissioner Cordero, this news came under criticism pretty quickly here.
As is with this time of the year, more players were cut from the Major League camp today. Here’s who got sent packing to the Minor League camp today:
As Jennings points out, this leaves only Ramiro Pena, Kevin Russo and Juan Miranda left to fight for an infield position. The only two who have a chance at this point are Pena and Russo. Pena might have the inside track having played well last year, but Russo has played well thus far this spring. Be on the look out Wednesday for my write-up on Russo as a potential call-up.
What’s an option? The Rule 5 Draft?
There’s a good chance a lot of fans who come to BBD already know what an option is and a little something about the Rule 5 Draft. But how many of you know how it really works? Find out for yourself…
This isn’t news per say, but a great piece of work from Baseball America that highlights exactly how options work in Major League and Minor League baseball. Considering you’ll find many of your favorite players optioned to the minors shortly, there’s no better time than now to up your baseball knowledge.
Five Questions with Chad Jenning
For the past few Minor League Mondays, we’ve been highlighting the players who’ve been featured in Jenning’s five questions. This week featured a player whom many Yankees fans will be interested to hear from.
