The Yankees (18-8) are looking for the series sweep against the Orioles (7-20) today.  Pettitte has been great for the Yankees so far this season, so let’s hope he keeps it up.

Top 1st: Lead off single into right center for Julio Lugo.  Pettitte strikes out Wigginton looking on a fastball away, one out.  Nick Markakis grounds into the 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. No runs on one hit, no one left on.

Bottom 1st: Jeter grounds out softly to second, one out.  Nick “The Butcher” Johnson CRUSHES one to right.  Yankees jump out to a 1-0 lead.  Tex hit a towering fly ball to right, but it just didn’t have enough; two outs.  Arod fists a pop up to short center field, inning over. Yanks get one run on one hit, no one left on.

Top 2nd: Tejada grounds out to Pettitte, one out.  Atkins bloops a single into short right, one on one out.  Wieters smacks a single back up the middle, first and second one out.  Reimold grounds into a nifty 6-4-3 double play.  Good range by Jeter to get to it and great turn by Robbie as usual. No runs, two hits, one left on.

Bottom 2nd: Cano worked a 3-1 count, but just got under it and flied out to center field; one out.  Swisher clubs a homer to right field, the ball exploded off his bat.  Yankees take a 2-0 lead.  With Gardner batting, Baltimore pitching coach Rick Kranitz has been ejected for apparently arguing balls and strikes.  Gardner hits a hard grounder to first that hits off Atkins’ glove; Gardner on first with a single, one out.  Gardner gets a good jump and steals second rather easily.  Frankie got overpowered by a fastball up in the zone, two outs.  Gardner moves to third on a wild pitch by Hernandez.  Randy Winn strikes out on a breaking ball in the dirt, rather terrible AB for Winn.  Yanks get one run on two hits while leaving a man on third. Yankees lead 2-0.

Top 3rd: Orioles backup catcher Craig Tatum grounds out to short, one out.  Lou Montanez grounds out to second, two outs.  Lugo swings at the first pitch and flies out to Swisher.  No runs on no hits.

Bottom 3rd: Jeter inside outs a single to right center.  Nick Johnson draws a walk, two on none out.  Back to back walks, bases loaded none out.  Arod swings at the first pitch and knocked a single into center, Jeter scores but NJ is thrown out at the plate.  Yankees take a 3-0 lead.  Cano goes down swinging, two outs.  Swisher hits a high fly ball to center to end the inning.  Yankees have a 3-0 lead after scoring one run on two hits while stranding two.

Random note: Anybody out there?

Top 4th: Ty Wigginton pops out to Cano, one out.  Markakis lines a single to center field.  Miguel Tejada follows suit and lines a single into left field, first and second one out.  Garrett Atkins works a full count walk, bases loaded one out.  Big strike out for Pettitte as he gets Wieters to swing and miss on a high fastball; two outs.  Pettitte misses low with a fast ball to walk in a run.  Andy recovers to get Tatum to ground out to Robbie, inning over. O’s get one run on two hits but keep the bases loaded. Yankees lead 3-1.

Bottom 4th: Gardy draws a full count walk, let’s see if he’s moving.  Strange sequence here: Cervelli bunts hard to Tejada and can get Gardner at second, but for some reason he didn’t throw it.  Gardy and Frankie are both safe, no outs.  Randy Winn sac bunts to advance the runners, one out. Jeter hits a grounder to Lugo at short who goes to third with it and gets Cervelli.  Gardner scores on the play, two outs.  No surprise here, NJ walks.  Baltimore goes to the bullpen, LHP Mark Hendrickson coming in.  Tex hits a double to right center field, two runs score.  Hendrickson intentionally walks Arod to get to the lefty Cano.  Cano takes three fastballs on the outside corner and walks back to the dugout.  Yankees lead 6-1 after scoring three runs on two hits and leave two on base.

Top 5th: Montanez starts it off with a deep fly ball to the warning track in right, one out. Lugo singles on a liner to center.  Yankees turn their third double play of the afternoon, 6-4-3.  Pettitte at 77 pitches through five innings.

Bottom 5th: Swisher hits a hard one hopper to Lugo at short who makes a good play and gets him at first.  Yankees are keeping Lugo on his toes as Gardner grounds out on a chopper to short.  Markakis makes a good play on a foul ball by Cervelli to end the inning.

Top 6th: Sergio Mitre relieves Pettitte, but no word on why Pettitte was taken out of the game after just 77 pitches.  Good play by Cervelli fielding a swinging bunt by Markakis, one out.  Miguel Tejada grounds out to third, two outs.  Atkins hits a slow grounder down the third base line that just stays far, but doesn’t run out of the box.  Arod makes the throw to get him at first.  In typical Mitre fashion, three outs and three ground outs.

Bottom 6th: Randy Winn lines out to right fielder Nick Markakis to lead off the inning.  Jeter gets jammed and grounds out softly to first, two outs.  Nick Johnson continues his good game by hitting a double to right center.  Tex strands him there though as he flies out to center.

Top 7th: Matt Wieters swings at the first pitch and skies one to left center. Gardner lost it in the sun, but Randy Winn makes the play; one out.  Reimold reaches on an infield single as he grounds one up the middle that Jeter cuts off but throws away at first.  Doesn’t matter though, as Montanez grounds into the 6-4-3 double play.  I don’t know if there’s any reasoning behind this, but I feel like the Yankees have been turning double plays at a high rate so far this season. What say you?

Bottom 7th: The Orioles go to the ‘pen again as LHP Will Ohman enters the game.  Arod grounds out to third to start off the inning, one out.  Cano makes the second out of the inning, grounding out to second.  Nick Swisher walks on four pitches.  Gardner grounds into a fielders choice (4-6) to end the inning.

Top 8th: Montanez leads off the inning with a fly ball to Gardner, one out.  Jeter tries the 360 throw to first again, but fails again; single for Lugo.  Wigginton CRUSHES a belt high sinker into the 2nd deck in left field.  Orioles trail 6-3, still one out.  And with that Mitre out, Damaso Marte in.  Marte makes Markakis look silly with a slider to strike him out, two outs.  After getting his sole lefty, David Robertson enters the game to face Tejada.  He lined out to Swisher to end the inning.  O’s get two runs on two hits but still trail 6-3 after seven and a half innings.

Bottom 8th: Alfredo Simon in for the Orioles.  Cervelli flies out to right for the first out of the inning.  Randy Winn grounds one through the right side.  After a stolen base by Winn, Jeter goes down swinging on a splitter, two outs.  Johnson grounds one up the middle that Wigginton botches (but is ruled a single) and allows Winn to score.  Tex swings at the very next pitch and grounds sharply to first, but Atkins kicks that one too (this one is called an error).  Arod ends the inning as he hits into the fielder’s choice (6-4).  Yanks got one run on two hits to extend their lead to 7-3.

Top 9th: David Robertson is out on the mound to finish up the game.  Atkins starts off the inning by lining out to Gardner in center, one out.  Matt Wieters worked the count full then sat on a fastball from Robertson and crushed it into the second deck in right; O’s trail 7-4.  Take that last sentence but insert Nolan Reimold instead of Matt Wieters; O’s trail 7-5.  Boone Logan in for the struggling Robertson, still just one out.  Logan walks pinch hitter Rhyne Hughes.  Lou Montanez pops one up into short center, but Gardner gets there to make the out.  Hughes to second on defensive indifference.  Lugo works a walk after falling behind 0-2, Logan out, Alfredo Aceves in.  Aceves gets Wigginton to fly out harmlessly to Swisher to end the game.  Yankees win 7-5.

Adios ladies and gentlemen, have a happy Cinco de Mayo.
