Yankees 2010 30th Round Draft Pick: Zach Nuding

Name: Zach Nuding
Ht: 6′4″
Wt: 250
B/T: R/R
DOB: 3-29-90
School level: JC

In the 30th round, and the final round of the second day, the Yankees went with a big junior college pitcher, Zach Nuding. Nuding is possibly the biggest pitcher in this draft at 250 and at 6’4″ not all of that weight is misplaced. He’s a raw talent so there is a lot of room for improvement here, but he throws a fastball, slider, and a split and tops out at 97 MPH with his fastball.

Because he’s so raw it sounds like Nuding is going to be a draft and follow. So the Yankees are going to watch him pitch over the next couple of weeks and if they like him they’ll make him an offer. He’s been drafted before by the Pirates in the 36th round last season.

Nothing from Baseball America on him. Here is what his college wrote about him:

Nuding went 6-4 with a 2.51 ERA and 73 strikeouts this season as the top starter for the Coyotes. The 6-foot-4 Haltom High School graduate earned All-Conference and All-Region accolades in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference. Nuding has signed to play at Texas Tech next season.

“Zach has worked extremely hard and has earned an opportunity to play baseball for a living,” said Jeff Lightfoot, WC head coach. “We are proud of him and wish him well.”

Here is a quick blurb from MLB.com:

Nuding, who was drafted in the 36th round by the Pirates a season ago, went 6-4 with a 2.18 ERA during his sophomore season for Weatherford.

My son will be going to Weatherford and it is great to see someone getting drafted from there.I also have another son that will play at ACU in Abilene. Both are pitchers and they throw in the low to mid 90's now. One will be a Freshman and the ACU son will be a Junior. They also dream of playing in MLB so watch out for the Stone brothers!!!
