Yankees 2010 35th Round Draft Pick: Will Oliver

Name: William Oliver
Ht: 6′2″
Wt: 180
B/T: R/R
DOB: 7-04-87
School level: JC

Picked in the 35th round out of Palomar College there really isn’t a lot of information on Will Oliver out there. What I did manage to find out is that he was drafted by the Rays in the 46th round of the 2005 draft. He began the year pitching for Palomar CC, but if you look on their website there really is no mention of him. That’s because he became academically ineligible and didn’t finish the season with them.

As far as what that means for his development it really only makes the picture more blurry. From what I can gather he hasn’t pitched at the college level consistently, but he’s already one of the older players in the draft at 22-years-old and soon to be 23.

Whatever is going on with him, he’s already signed. Because of the question marks I wonder if he’ll pitch for Staten Island or maybe he’ll start in Tampa and get some instruction first. We’ll see.
