Not According to Plan

Manager Joe Girardi and the Yankees planned on limiting Phil Hughes' inning last night by removing the pitcher early from the game and using Javier Vazquez. But it didn't work out according to plan as Hughes needed 104 pitches just to get through 3.2 innings as he allowed five earned runs for the loss.

Yankees Trade Rumors: Interested in Hiroki Kuroda

Via Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports' Twitter: Dodgers put Kuroda on waivers. Rival exec: "I guarantee Yankees are all over it." Kuroda owed about $2.7M. Lilly not yet on waivers. This is about as far fetched as published rumors get. Rosenthal has no info from the Yankees. It's a rival executive guessing that the Yankees would put ...
Nova Taking Vazquez’s Rotation Spot

At least for one start. Here is more via the Yankees LoHud Blog: Just got out of Joe Girardi’s pregame session. There is a change of plans in the rotation. Ivan Nova will start on Sunday. Javier Vazquez will move to the bullpen. Vazquez will be available in relief beginning tomorrow. For now, Girardi said the ...

Yankees Notes: Nova, Aceves, Marte, Pettitte, and More

The Yankees lost a tough one yesterday 3-2 to the Toronto Blue Jays as Ivan Nova made his first big league start. Nova wasn't overpowering, but if it weren't for a dominant 12 strikeout performance by Brandon Morrow the Yankees could have won this game. Here are some notes: Nova ran into trouble early when ...

Making Umpires Better
Monday night's 3-2 loss to the Blue Jays is a tough one to swallow - not just because the Yankees lost a close one, but because some of it was out of their control. In the 3rd inning, Eduardo Nunez threw a ball wide of first that Mark Teixeira made an amazing stretch on, and yet ...

Trades of Kearns and Wood Working Out; Berkman Not So Much

The Yankees made three deals at the July 31st trade deadline acquiring Lance Berkman, Kerry Wood, and Austin Kearns. So far Berkman hasn't entirely worked out and has been on the DL, but Wood and Kearns have been big contributors since coming to the Bronx. Kearns was acquired primarily for his outfield defense ...
Yankees Notes: A-Rod, Nova, Call-Ups, Sabathia

There were no updates yesterday because I was busy with a family member's wedding. There is a silver lining to that, on my way home I stopped at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY and got plenty of great Yankees related pictures that I will post later today. If you have never been to ...
