Sorry for the lack of updates this afternoon. The Yankees are hosting the Boston Red Sox this weekend with Javier Vazquez starting tonight.
Here are some notes for you to enjoy with the game:
- Andy Pettitte threw a bullpen today, he’s feeling good and should get into a rehab game soon. He’ll probably be back in the Bronx in a week or so.
- Jorge Posada is benched today. Joe Girardi said he’ll probably catch 3 out of every 5 games for the remainder of the season. He’ll probably sit in favor of Lance Berkman the remaining games.
- Alfredo Aceves, out since May with a back injury, might actually be coming back. He’s going to throw a bullpen tomorrow and if that goes well he’ll have a rehab appearance in Scranton on Tuesday.
- The Yankees are keeping an eye on recently DFA’d outfielder Jose Guillen.
- Former major leaguer RHP Tim Redding has been the Yankees best pitcher in Triple-A Scranton, but has left the team and signed with a Korean team.
- They have agreed on a contract with 6th round draft pick RHP Gabe Encinas.
I’m a bit surprised by their interest in Guillen. He can’t hit for average or draw a decent amount of walks. He’s also pretty bad in the field. On top of that he’s got a reputation for being a surly player. From what I can tell he doesn’t offer the Yankees much at all.
