Cliff Lee’s Wife Doesn’t Like the Yankees

Via Bob Nightengale of the USA Today:

Perhaps the Rangers’ greatest sales pitch simply was having [Kristen Lee, the wife of Cliff Lee] sit in the visiting family section at Yankee Stadium during the playoffs. She says there were ugly taunts. Obscenities. Cups of beer thrown. Even fans spitting from the section above.

“The fans did not do good things in my heart,” Kristen says.

“When people are staring at you, and saying horrible things, it’s hard not to take it personal.”

I don’t want to read too much into this, but a player’s wife certainly does have a lot to say about where that player ends up. Just look at Mark Teixeira, his wife wanted him to sign with the Yankees and here he is.

However, $25 million or so per year over a few years goes a long way. It’s possible that she’s not happy now, but things change and money is the best way to change them.

No REAL fan would do this. Fake Yankees "fans" make us all look like Red Sox chowdaheads. Have some friggin class.

  2. Russ C. says:

Meanwhile she's rumored to have already picked out a house in Westchester. If the money is there, Lee will be here.

  3. I haven't heard that rumor. Supposedly she was talking with Amber Sabathia about where to live in July, but that wouldn't have lasted past an afternoon. Also, they are buying a pretty big house in Arkansas right now.

As a life long Ranger fan I was estatic when we traded for Cliff and as true fan of the game I was appalled to hear how his wife was treated by the Yankee fans and even more appalled to hear people say that all the money the Yankees will offer will make her forget her bad experience there. Kristen Lee does not seem to be the kind of person can be bought.

  5. Cliff Lee said it wouldn't matter.

    • DirtyWater says:

Yeah…think he also said Yankees weren't gonna be considered anymore and wipe $10million plus off my pending free agency…

Saying it doesn't matter is about as realistic as believing a woman forgets when she's been slighted and never holds a grudge.

Close yer eyes and keep telling yerself its ONLY about the money…

  6. frank hernandez says:

Yes but as we all know if mama is not happy then no one is happy

  7. If you are going to throw around cliches, then you should know that it's about the money.
