Yankees News: Berkman, Posada, Hughes, and Cruz

The Yankees won an elimination game to force the ALCS to move back to Texas where Phil Hughes will try to prolong their season in game six Friday night.

Here are some notes:

  • Lance Berkman took a nasty spill in the 4th inning yesterday, but after the game he said he was alright and that his pride was hurt more than anything.
  • CC Sabathia credited Jorge Posada for helping him keep his mechanics straight throughout game 5.
  • Phil Hughes was available in relief yesterday. If he had pitched, Girardi said he still would have used him in game 6.
  • Nelson Cruz left yesterday’s game early with a tight hamstring, but he said he expects to play in game six.

The off-day came at a good time for Berkman. He’s alright, but after a fall like that you’re always a bit sore. With rest he should have no problem coming back for game 6.

Phil Hughes has to redeem himself tomorrow night.
