Yankees Still Alive, Trail ALCS 3-2

The Yankees won a must win game today beating the Texas Rangers 7-2 behind a gritty performance by CC Sabathia and a rare offensive outbreak that included three home runs. They now trail in the ALCS 3-2 and will head back to Texas for game six on Friday.

Here are some highlights:

  • Sabathia held the Rangers to 2 runs over 6 innings despite allowing 11 hits.
  • Nick Swisher, Robinson Cano, and Curtis Granderson all hit solo home runs.
  • Despite the home run, Swisher is 0-for-25 in his playoff career with RISP.
  • Alex Rodriguez finally started looking good at the plate. He went 1-for-2 with a double, a pair of walks, and a stolen base.
  • Kerry Wood killed a late rally by picking Elvis Andrus off at 2nd base.

It’s back to Texas and Phil Hughes is likely to get the start in the next game. This series is not over and coming back from 3-2 is certainly more doable than 3-1. Yes, they still have to face Cliff Lee, but they need to worry about that when they get to that point.
