Bidding Closed for Japanese Free Agent Hisashi Iwakuma

According to Patrick Newman of the NPB Tracker, the bidding has closed on the recently posted Japanese right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma. All we know is that more than one team has submitted a bid and his team has until November 11 to accept the bid or not.

Interest from the Yankees is unclear. They have scouted him in the past and are said to be dark horse candidates in the bidding, but general manager Brian Cashman has refused to comment on the situation. It’s possible that they’ve submitted a low-ball bid.

The Mariners are expected to be the front runners with a $13 million bid.
