MiLB Notes: Laird and Mesa Honored, Banuelos, Romine, and Laird Named to Rising Stars Team

A couple of minor things here. As you know, OFer Melky Mesa was added to the the Yankees 40-man roster yesterday. Well later on in the day Mesa was named Player of the Year in the Florida State League (High-A).

He joined fellow prospect 3B/OF Brandon Laird who was named Player of the Year in the Eastern League (Double-A).

Laird was also part of a trio, including LHP Manny Banuelos and C Austin Romine, who were named to the Arizona Fall League Rising Stars team. It’s an All-Star game of sorts that will be broadcast this Saturday at 9:00 pm on the MLB Network.

All of this news is pretty cool, but the thing I’m most excited about is the Rising Stars game being broadcast this weekend. I’ve heard a lot about Banuelos, but I’ve never gotten a chance to see him pitch.
