Robinson Cano Wins Silver Slugger

Robinson Cano had an amazing year this season and the awards are starting to pile up. He won a Gold Glove earlier in the week and tonight he took home a Silver Slugger Award.

Silver Slugger is an award given to the best offensive player at each position and Cano was by far the best second baseman in the American League. His OPS+ was a whopping 142. No other second baseman had an OPS+ of even 100 with Ben Zobrist and Orlando Hudson coming in at 95 and 93 respectively.

So he’s taken home the award for being an elite defensive player, an elite offensive player, could an MVP award be next?

Is there no Golden Slugger award? Long live Robinson!

  2. No, it's Gold Glove and Silver Slugger. For a hitter the only higher award is the MVP. I'm not sure why they do it that way.
