Yankees Rumors: Cliff Lee Negotiations Should Move Forward Soon

Via Buster Olney of ESPN:

Executives involved in the bidding for Cliff Lee believe the negotiations will gather momentum in the week ahead, perhaps to a point where the All-Star left-hander will choose his next employer sometime during the winter meetings that start Dec. 6.

The agent for Lee, Darek Braunecker, indicated on Saturday afternoon that he and his client could meet with anywhere from one to three teams in the week ahead.

The winter meetings start a week from today and the rumors are that the Yankees will make a serious pitch for Lee that week. So we may hear a fair amount of rumblings over the next few days leading up to the meetings.

It could also mean that they will make a push to sign Derek Jeter this week because if they can get a deal in place with him before the meetings that obviously frees up their time to deal with Lee.
