Martin Passes Physical Signs with Yankees for $4 Mil

Update: Martin’s deal comes with an addition $1.4 million worth of incentives based on games caught. So his deal could be worth a total of $5.4 million if he catches at least 120 games.

Original post: The Yankees reached an agreement with free agent catcher Russell Martin yesterday, but it was not official until he passed his physical which was no sure thing.

But Buster Olney of ESPN reported earlier that Martin did indeed pass his physical so the deal, believed to be worth $4 million, is official.

Martin previously turned down a $4.2 million deal with another $1.1 million in incentives from the Dodgers so it is possible that there are incentives in this deal that just haven’t been reported yet.
