Rumors: Royals Not Interested in Moving Joakim Soria

Via Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports:

Royals getting calls on [Joakim Soria]. No plans to move him. Affordable club options 12-13-14. Likes KC. Great exmple. Anchor for young staff.

The Yankees haven’t been connected to Soria this offseason. I thought that it was important to mention this though because there has been a belief that with the Yankees unable to upgrade their rotation and Mariano Rivera possibly on his last two-year contract that they may try to get a closer to put in front of him. That would make their bullpen dangerous and set up his potential heir once he retires.

That said, it would be highly doubtful that the Yankees would acquire him at this point even if the Royals did plan on moving Soria. They don’t seem willing to pay closer value for what would be a setup-man for them. They wouldn’t have to pay in dollars for Soria as he is on a rather team friendly contract, but they would have to pay through the nose in prospects.

At this point that is not going to happen.

The Yankees are on Soria's no trade list. He put all teams with prominent, entrenched closers on his list because he doesn't want to be traded to be a setup man.
