Rumors: Royals Trying to Get Yankees Involved in Greinke Bidding

Via Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated:

KC trying to involve Yankees in Greinke but NYY hesitant to risk him in NYC. deep in mix: Tex, Mil, Wash, LAD, Tor.

Of course the Royals are trying to get the Yankees involved in Zack Greinke talks. The Yankees have been desperate to add an elite starter and if they’re in the mix other teams will up their bids. The Yankees themselves have a decent amount of talented prospects and maybe the Royals have their eyes on one or more of them.

Don’t expect much to come of this though. The Yankees seem quite hesitant to add Greinke. They have been focused on adding not only good players, but players that they think will be able to thrive in the pressure situation that is the Bronx (Although Javier Vazquez is the obvious exception here).

The Yankees will get pretty desperate to keep up with the Red Sox if they miss out on Cliff Lee though. I brought up the possibility of a three-team-trade today on Twitter. Maybe the Yankees could trade for Greinke and send him, plus prospects, to the Twins for Francisco Liriano. Greinke might be slightly better than Liriano, but he’s a lefty and doesn’t come with nearly as many question marks as Greinke does.

That is just my own crazy idea though and one that even if the Yankees considered would be very complicated and difficult to pull off.
