Several teams have called Minnesota to inquire about the availability of ace Francisco Liriano , including the Yankees, who are making sure of what is available in case they don’t land Cliff Lee . But a Twins official said the team is focused on upgrading the front of the rotation and could not imagine how they would let Liriano go unless it were a trade that led to obtaining another high-end starter.
So the Twins don’t appear to be willing to trade Liriano. That is of course unless they get another high-end starter. Interesting.
I don’t know about you, but I immediately think three-team trade here. Zack Greinke is available, but there are very big question marks as to whether or not he could pitch in the Bronx. But maybe the Yankees could trade for him only to send him, plus prospects, to the Twins in exchange for Liriano.
That actually sounds like a great idea to me, but the Yankees would have to miss out on Cliff Lee first for this to even be a real idea. Also, trades like this can be very complicated so right from the start it seems like an extreme longshot. But part of me would much prefer this to a seven-year deal for Lee.
