Via Buster Olney of ESPN:
Heard this: The Yankees are now taking an aggressive approach in the Russell Martin conversations. It’s Boston vs. NYY, plus others.
I keep thinking that the Yankees are just doing this because they know that the Red Sox need a starting catcher, and that may very well still be the case, but they do seem to be getting serious.
I really hope this doesn’t mean they are going to trade Jesus Montero. Of course it doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the case. Montero comes with real defensive questions and having a good defensive catcher like Martin around could help balance those fears. After all, Francisco Cervelli is a terrible defensive option and Austin Romine is probably not ready.
