Yankees Have 1-Year Offer on Table for Russell Martin

The Yankees are aggressively pursuing free agent Russell Martin to be their starting catcher and are offering him a one-year deal, according to Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News.

We’ve been hearing a lot on Martin over the past few days. It seems to have come down to the Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, and one other team. The three AL East teams are said to each have a one-year offer on the table. Not much is known about the fourth team.

Martin will be arbitration eligible after the 2011 season, meaning that even if he signed a one-year contract the team could easily keep him through 2012 as well.
