Rumors: Yankees Will Be Scouting Francisco Liriano 2

This is sort of obvious. The Yankees are in need of starting pitching and if reports are true that the Twins might be willing to trade Liriano then he’s the best available starting pitcher right now. So the Yankees will probably have scouts at his games for most of this season and the Twins, knowing the Yankees are desperate for pitching, will likely have a lot of their own scouts following the Yankees’ minor leaguers.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has been desperately searching for pitching, but may hold off on making a trade until closer to the deadline. The reason for that would be because of Liriano’s shoulder issues. He’s an extremely talented pitcher with a high strikeout rate and ground ball rate, but there is a lingering question about his durability. By waiting until July the Yankees would have a better idea of his true injury risk.

What turned me off were the reports saying that he flat-out said “no” when asked if he had been doing his exercises to maintain his shoulder. If this is true, no bueno. That’s a sign of laziness and lack of responsibility. Don’t need that here.

yeah but sometimes you can motivate this kind of player and get his head back on straight. You can't teach the kind of stuff this guy has.
