Yankees First Round of Spring Cuts Expected Soon

Joe GirardiThere are currently more than 60 players in the major league camp for the Yankees, but considering that there will only be 25 players who make the roster out of spring training there are a lot of cuts on their way. Yesterday the Yankees manager, Joe Girardi, told reporters that he expects to start making cuts by this weekend.

There will probably be a few waves of cuts as they won’t just kick out 30 or so players out of spring training. Instead they’ll just start cutting back on the guys that had no shot to make the team in the first place, but were invited so they can get a taste of what big league camp is all about.

Sticking around will be guys like Brandon Laird and Jorge Vazquez. These are guys who have a shot at making the team, but it is a very slim one right now, but guys who will likely play some small role with the club at some point during the season.

As usual, we’ll have a list of which players were cut as soon as we hear about it so check back here for that sometime in the upcoming days.
