Yankees Drop 1st Game of Subway Series

francisco-rodriguezThe Yankees offense apparently didn’t make their train as they wasted a strong performance from Freddy Garcia and lost 2-1 to the Mets to open the Subway Series.

Mark Teixeira, one of the few Yankees to even have a hit today, homered in the 3rd to give them a 1-0 lead. After that they made R.A. Dickey, Mike O’Connor, Jason Isringhausen, and Frankie Rodriguez look amazing.

It also wasted a seven inning, two run performance by Garcia. Joba Chamberlain and David Robertson also came on in relief and pitched brilliantly for an inning each.

UP NEXT: Today is game two of this series and A.J. Burnett (4-3, 3.99 ERA) is taking on Chris Capuano (3-4, 4.78 ERA). The game is on FOX and it starts at 7:10pm.

One Response to Yankees Drop 1st Game of Subway Series

  1. Mike S. says:

The offense is worrisome. Only Cano, among the regulars, enters tonight over .270. From innings 7-9, they are hitting .210. They are .243 with RISP, .213 with RISP and 2 out. Swisher in particular is 1 for 21 with RISP and 2 out. Too much reliance on the HR. The clutch hitting isn't there so far. Also worrisome: CC, Colon and Garcia each have ERA's under 3.20. Their combined record? 8-9. The Yanks can't afford to waste good starts, especially when you don't know how long Garcia and/or Colon will continue at the pace they have been on.
