Alex Rodriguez blasted a pair of home runs that gave the Yankees the lead and the bullpen took care of the rest as the Yankees ended their losing streak at six games with a 6-2 road win over Tampa.
NOTABLE PLAYERS AND THEIR WPA’s: David Robertson: .263
A-Rod had the best WPA of the game thanks to his two big homers, but David Robertson escaped the highest leverage situation of the game when he struck out two to stand the bases loaded in the 6th. He is emerging as the best non-Mariano Rivera reliever this season.
SO-SO NOVA: Ivan Nova actually had kind of an odd night. He wasn’t over powering, but he only allowed one run on a solo shot by Elliot Johnson. The only other person to get a hit off him was Johnny Damon who went 3-for-3 against him. It wasn’t a great start though as he threw too many pitches early and struggled as the game went on because of it. Still, a good start for the rookie overall.
LEANING ON JOBA: Joba Chamberlain pitched on three straight days for the first time…ever. Joba has never in his major league career ever pitched on more than back-to-back days. Not sure if that was on purpose or not.
UP NEXT: The Yankees head to Baltimore tomorrow for a two game series against the Orioles before heading back home this weekend for the Subway Series. Bartolo Colon (2-2, 3.74 ERA) will take on Zach Britton (5-2, 2.42 ERA) tomorrow and CC Sabathia will go on Thursday.
