Joba Chamberlain to the DL with Strained Flexor Muscle

Joba Chamberlain, who has slowly become one of the Yankees more consistent pitchers this season, has been placed on the 15-day DL for a strained flexor muscle, according to Sweeny Murti of WFAN.

According to reports, Joba is expected to miss at least three to four weeks as he will be shutdown for 10-14 days before he can resume throwing.

He will be replaced on the roster by Jeff Marquez who was just claimed off of waivers from the White Sox. In a separate move, Hector Noesi, who threw six innings last night, will also be sent down to the minors and Amauri Sanit will be called up in his place.

This is a big blow to the Yankees. They have already lost Rafael Soriano for at least another month or two and Joba had been doing a great job pitching the 8th inning in his absence. Without him, David Robertson is probably going to have to be the 8th inning guy.

That leaves the Yankees bullpen pretty weak at the moment. Sanit or Marquez will not be the answer. It’ll be interesting to see if the Yankees increase their efforts to land a reliever via a trade.

How bad was the Andruw Jones signing?

  2. Joe says:

Bring up the young talent. More heart. Less salary.

it is time to bring up some youth at AAA…why mess around with Sanit…Whelan should be next in line…

  4. hardnose says:

Joe, agreed about Jones…in theory it seemed like a steal…a GG outfielder with some excellent power but he has underperformed and the Yankees shouldn't waste much more time on him…a good defensive replacement but I'd take Ruben Sierra anyday over Jones…and I realize that Sierra is long gone…

Actually, Tim Norton may be on a very fast track to the Bronx.
