Yankees Bats Come Alive in Oakland

curtis-grandersonThe Yankees got a brilliant pitching performance to beat the Athletics yesterday, but today it was the bats that got the job done as they beat them 10-3 Tuesday.

It was Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano who homered, but that wasn’t the only way the Yankees got runs as Granderson and Alex Rodriguez both got bases loaded singles and they even got a little lucky as Mark Teixeira stole home after A-Rod was picked off first base.

Freddy Garcia pitched and went seven innings, giving up three runs on nine hits. Luis Ayala and Lance Pendleton provided an inning of scoreless relief as well.

WHAT THIS MEANS: The Yankee win coupled with a Boston loss means the Yankees are sitting in 1st place all by themselves a game better than the Red Sox. However, the Rays won and remain a game-and-a-half behind in third.

THE JETER-METER: Derek Jeter went 2-for-4 bringing him to 2,983 hits for his career. That’s just 17 left until 3,000.

THE WEST COAST ISN’T SO BAD: The Yankees are in the middle of a tough 9-game tough road trip, but so far they are 3-2 during the trip.

UP NEXT: The Yankees wrap up this three game road trip against Oakland Wednesday as A.J. Burnett (5-3, 3.99 ERA) goes up against Gio Gonzalez (5-2, 2.17 ERA).
