Chavez Expected Back Today, Soriano By Friday

The cavalry is about ready to arrive and it isn’t here via a trade. Instead the Yankees are getting Eric Chavez and Rafael Soriano back this week, according to Bryan Hoch of

Joe Girardi said that he expects Chavez to return today (Tuesday) and Soriano by Friday. Soriano pitched back-to-back days on Sunday and Monday so he might not be available to pitch again until Thursday. The Yankees have an off-day on Thursday so that would mean Soriano could be activated on Friday.

Brandon Laird is the likely casualty when Chavez is activated today. They essentially both fill the same role so there is little reason to have both of them around. Lefty reliever Steve Garrison is probably the one who will get the cut on Friday, although it very well could be Hector Noesi as well.
