DL’d Nova Might Be Called Up July 30th 3

ivan-novaYankees pitcher Ivan Nova hurt his ankle on Tuesday night and has been placed on the 7-day disabled list. However, Yankees manager Joe Girardi has indicated that the injury isn’t that bad and Nova may still be called up to pitch on July 30th for a double-header, according to Chad Jennings of the Journal News.

Nova got sent down when Phil Hughes was activated off the DL earlier this month. Since then he has dominated Triple-A putting up a 3.38 ERA over 16 innings, but what really stands out is a 10.1 K/9 and a 1.1 BB/9. The Yankees most likely want to keep him stretched out so he can be available as a starter, but he is clearly doesn’t need the minor leagues anymore.

That's terrific baseball thinking, isn't it? Send him down to the minors, get him hurt, and now bring him up to try to pitch through the injury. I wouldn't put any stock in what the Yankees say about whether or not the injury is serious. They say that all the time about almost every injury. I didn't see the injury happen so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. I have to say I haven't liked the way the Yankees are running their club for a couple of years now.
