Via Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated:
yankees are used to big contracts. but not even they like wandy pact. if traded, 2014 club option becomes player option
Counting his 2014 option, Wandy Rodriguez is owed $36 million over the next three years. Rodriguez, 32, has a 3.52 ERA in 102.1 innings this season, good for a 106 ERA+. Over the last three years he has a 3.35 ERA and a 118 ERA+. Translate that to the American League and he is a slightly better version of Ivan Nova. Don’t blame the Yankees for not liking his contract.
Does go to show you why the Yankees are hesitant to include Nova in trades.
