Trade Rumors: Yankees Still Not Interested in Beltran 3

I’ve written this article before so I’m going to make this quick. The Yankees are not interested in trading for Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.

The logic behind this makes sense. Unlike the Mets deal with the Brewers for Francisco Rodriguez, this will not be a straight salary dump. Beltran won’t get a kings ransom, but he is a strong rental player who currently has anywhere from 6-8 teams interested in him with the Tigers probably the favorites.

The Yankees also have players at any spot where Beltran would play. Brett Gardner, Curtis Granderson, and Nick Swisher make up probably the best outfield in baseball and Jorge Posada has put up good numbers as the DH since he struggled in April. So there is really no where to use Beltran.

On top of that the Yankees have other pressing areas of need. They are always shopping for a starting pitcher. They would probably like to add a reliever or two, specifically a lefty if they can. And a bench player, especially one who can play third base, is also a bigger need right now.

I'm sick of Posada and have absolutely no confidence in him at all. Applaud him from here on out, show him respect and appreciation, but stop kissing his ass. He'll be 40 soon, we're 100 games into the season, and he's at .223-9-29. I'd love to get Beltran to DH down the stretch and to bench (or release) Posada. We're supposed to be in the business of winning, not kissing players' asses. But no, instead of Gardner leading off, we placate Jeter. Instead of Nova staying in the rotation, he was sent down for Hughes. Instead of benching Posada, … I wonder what the Mets would want for Beltran. Especially with Alex out for another month. Teix has had 1 HR in the month of July. Posada and Martin are both below .225. They could use a bat. As for me, I'd pursue Beltran. Yes, there are some other needs, but I am not comfortable with the Posada/Martin positions in the lineup right now. I'd at least check into Beltran.
