Trade Rumors: Yankees Would Pay Big for Gio Gonzalez

The Oakland Athletics are refusing to talk about dealing him, but the Yankees have their eyes on their young lefty starter Gio Gonzalez and according to Joel Sherman of the NY Post, they would pay big to get him.

Gonzalez, still 25, has looked like an ace over in Oakland over the last two years. Last year he had a 3.23 ERA, a 127 ERA+ with a 7.7 K/9 and a 4.1 BB/9. This year has been even better. His 4.1 BB/9 still remains a bit high, but his K/9 has jumped to 9.0 and his ERA has dropped to 2.67 or a 145 ERA+.

On top of that Gonzalez is still cost controlled through the 2015 season and would be a tough lefty to use against the Boston Red Sox left handed heavy lineup. Unfortunately, despite the fact that the A’s are not in contention they have no real motivation to move him.

    If only

  2. David K. says:

The only motivation for them to trade him to us would be if we give them what they desperately need, which is young hitting talent. Other than Montero, it doesn't look like we have any great hitting prospects who are major league ready. I don't want to deal him, so it's intriguing but it doesn't seem possible or likely.

Beane only gets rid of arms when they're due for a big payday or there's something wrong with them (Harden). I would love Gio in pinstripes but I can't see that happening.
