With the Yankees’ suddenly improving starting pitching depth, they aren’t expected to revisit trade talks with Houston for Wandy Rodriguez. They offered to pay $21 million of the $38 million remaining on Rodriguez’s deal before the deadline.
As we heard earlier in the week, talks between the Yankees and Astros over Wandy were instigated by the Yankees ownership so it seems as if Brian Cashman will get his way and the two sides won’t be working out a deal.
It’s just as well anyway as Rodriguez is not clearly better than any of the Yankees starters and Phil Hughes has at least given them reason to stick with him for a little longer. This could be revisited at the end of the season, but that is doubtful at this point.
