Yankees Get Another Lefty Off the Scrap Heap

The Yankees have added yet another left handed relief option to the team this week as they claimed Raul Valdes off of waivers from the Cardinals, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

They made room for him on the roster by placing Jeffrey Marquez on the 60-day DL and have for now assigned him to Triple-A.

Valdes, a former Met, pitched in seven games for the Cards this season. Over 5.1 innings he had a 3.38 ERA, an impressive 11.8 K/9, but a disappointing 6.8 BB/9. He gives the Yankees another option to stash down in the minor leagues. He probably won’t see time in the Bronx until rosters expand in September, but he also provides insurance in case Boone Logan gets hurt.

In 64 major league innings he has actually done much better against righties (a .668 OPS against RHB) than lefties (.979 OPS against LHB).
