Cervelli Likely Done for Year After Latest Setback

Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli has been out for a few weeks after he suffered concussion symptoms after getting bowled over at the plate one too many times.

Last week he was cleared to resume baseball activity with the hopes that even if he missed the ALDS that he might be ready to return for the ALCS or even the World Series. However all that is in doubt now after he suffered his latest setback.

Working out with the Yankees in Tampa, Cervelli participated in throwing and catching drills and afterwards manager Joe Girardi told Bryan Hoch of MLB.com that his symptoms returned.

So it looks like the Yankees are going to have to figure out how to navigate the month of October without Cervelli. It shouldn’t be that big of a deal considering most backup catchers not named Jose Molina don’t start playoff games.
