Yankees Have An…Interesting Lineup Today

With all of the rain that fell last night the Yankees game didn’t end until about 2:00 a.m. That gave players time to get changed and drive home and most of them probably didn’t get to bed until 4:00 a.m. or later. So manager Joe Girardi decided that he would give most of his regulars the day off today and the result is, well, something that looks like a spring training lineup.

  1. Eduardo Nunez, SS
  2. Russell Martin, C
  3. Nick Swisher, RF
  4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B
  5. Andruw Jones, LF
  6. Jesus Montero, DH
  7. Brandon Laird, 1B
  8. Greg Golson, CF
  9. Ramiro Pena, 2b

A.J. Burnett is on the mound too which should make for quite an interesting day if the rain doesn’t stop them. Burnett of course changed up his mechanics a bit before his last start and had some success against the Red Sox doing so. We’ll see if he can carry that over today.

Yanks still lose to Orioles, luckily the Blue Jays took care of Red Sox so no change in division lead. Burnett's improved last two starts, beginning to look like his old self but Yankees would be fools to depend on him at this point in season.

I don't see the Yankees using AJ that much in the playoffs unless he's very solid in his next 3 starts or so…I'm not even sure if he's slated to get those starts…i'm hoping the Yankees work a deal at the winter meetings for an above average starter…the problem with that is, it's a sellers market…

  2. We've set the bar pretty low if a 4.76 ERA is looking like his old self again.
