The Yankees needed to clear room on their 40-man roster this week when they called up righty reliever George Kontos so they designated Lance Pendleton for assignment. That meant that Pendleton would have to pass through waivers in order for the Yankees to keep him.
That didn’t happen as the Houston Astros claimed Pendleton off of waivers, according to Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle.
Pendleton had actually been acquired by the Astros back in spring training through the Rule 5 draft. The Astros eventually gave him back to the Yankees as Rule 5 draftees must stay in the major leagues or be offered back to their original club.
He must have made an impression even if he didn’t stick with them at the time.
