One of the Yankees younger top prospects, Gary Sanchez, had an up and down season that included a brief demotion for behavioral issues and a season ending thumb injury, but it was good enough to land him on Baseball America’s Top 20 Prospects of the South Atlantic League list at no. 14.
Sanchez, 18, finished with a .256 average, a .335 OBP, and a .820 OPS. He had 17 homers and 16 doubles in 82 games.
Before this season started they ranked him as the no. 30 overall prospect in all of baseball so this almost definitely is a prelude to at least a slight drop in the rankings. They praised his power and bat speed, but noted that he has a long way to go defensively.
