Game 5: Nova to Start, Sabathia Available Out of Bullpen

The Yankees beat the Tigers last night to force an ALDS game five back at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night. After Tuesday’s game manager Joe Girardi confirmed that Ivan Nova will make the start, but that CC Sabathia would be available to come out of the bullpen if they need him, according to George King of the NY Post.

Going for the Tigers will be Doug Fister who started the resumed game one against Nova and was victimized by Robinson Cano who helped to win the game with a grand slam.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland has said that he won’t use Justin Verlander out of the pen, but if he is put into a desperate situation with his season on the line it is hard to imagine he won’t go back on his word.

Either way the Yankees and Tigers both have their aces lined up to start game one of the ALCS if they can manage to avoid using them today. It is Sabathia’s throw day today though so if he only goes for one inning he could still start a potential game one.
