Rumor: Yankees Unlikely to Post Big Money for Yu Darvish

Japanese phenom Yu Darvish is potentially one of the best pitchers on the free agent market this winter, but if the Yankees are going to land him it will take quite a bit of luck as Joel Sherman of the NY Post has reported that Hal Steinbrenner is unlikely to authorize big money to win the posting rights.

There is a chance that they could still land him as teams could potentially bid lower than expected, but it took a bid of about $50 million for the Red Sox to land Daisuke Matsuzaka before the 2007 season.

It’s impossible to say what the posting fee will be this time around, but if the Yankees are not willing to be aggressive it is very unlikely that they would win the bid.
