Yankees Trade Rumors: the Braves want Eduardo Nunez

A source told John Harper of the NY Daily News that the Braves really like Yankees shortstop Eduardo Nunez and are even willing to deal Jair Jurrjens for a package including him.

“They’re willing to trade him,” the source said, “because they have plenty of young pitching without him, he’s starting to make big money — and he’s a (Scott) Boras guy who’ll be gone (as free agent) in two years.

“They need offense, they need a shortstop because they don’t want to bring (Alex) Gonzalez back, and they like Nunez a lot. They know the jury is out on him defensively, but they think his offense is strong enough that he could move to the outfield if he can’t be their long-term answer at short.”

Nunez alone is obviously not enough to land Jurrjens. Harper brings up Nick Swisher as the Braves are looking for an outfield bat. That’s not a bad idea either, but the Braves are expected to shed money this offseason which could make it cost prohibitive to add Swish. Even if they like him, it would still take another prospect or two to land Jurrjens.

Are the Braves kidding? First Jurrjens can't stay healthy, who wants a player like that. Trade your RF and backup SS for an oft-injured SP who's velocity has dropped off the last 2 years? Yeah maybe Atlanta wants to sell us their used jock straps too.

Swisher for Jurrjens doesn't sound great to me.

A package with Nunez at the front would be great though if we could manage that.

  3. Mickeyd7 says:

Jurrjens is damaged goods! The Braves hate the Yankees because they lost to them twice in World Series competition. Let's see the last trade with Atlanta for a SP did not work out can you say Javey Vasquez (sp)

  4. Billy Martin says:

Jurrjens won't pitch well in the AL, his velocity is weak and durability is questionable. I hope the Yanks don't make this deal, instead try and go for Garza, Shields, Gio….not much else out there…
