If this is the asking price for Gio Gonzalez then there is no chance the Yankees are going to land him. According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Oakland Athletics have asked for a package that includes Jesus Montero, Manny Banuelos, and Dellin Betances in exchange for Gonzalez.
This must be Billy Beane’s way of saying that he isn’t trading Gonzalez to the Yankees because there is probably no chance they include even two of these players in the same deal. Realistically there is no reason to even discuss this at this point.
Gonzalez has a career 3.93 ERA, a 8.59 K/9, a 4.44 BB/9, and a 47.5 GB%. A cheaper and also left handed version of Gonzalez might be the Mets’ Jonathon Niese who has a career 4.39 ERA, a 7.65 K/9, a 2.99 BB/9, and a 49.1 GB%. Niese’s stats suggest that his high ERA might be the result of the Mets poor defense last season.

It makes no sense to trade one of those guys Gio or Niese let alone all three of them!
Chill out boys, it's called negotiating. The object of the game is to pay the least amount possible while receiving the most in return. Let the games begin, Gio is going to be a Yankee!
I disagee boogy. If you have a $50 widget for sale….there is nothing wrong with starting at $75 in hopes of someone overpaying or exceeding your expectations. However, when someone asks for $400 for that $50 widget….he's just an F'n idiot. That is Billy Beane in this case.
Cashman needs to put a smiliar package together and shop that package to every team with a young starter for sale. Tell each team the same offer is out….first one who acts, gets the prospects. Or, you can just keep asking for the moon and in the end, when the music stops, you'll be left with your brashole in your hand…choice is yours. GET IT DONE CASHMAN….DO YOUR JOB!
Maybe AndyPettite makes a comeback
That's just wishful thinking, right? Have you seen anything to suggest that Andy wants to get back into the game?
There has been nothing to suggest that this is a possibility.
It' the NYY. You ask for the moon and hope you wind up with a great slice of cheese. Not uncommon in negotiating to ask for double what you want, hoping to wind up with half of that. Think about how psyched he'd be if he wound up with a proven starter (arguably not quite Montero) and one great prospect(either one of the B's) for his AL west all- star.
Beane is just trying to make up for giving Cahill away for very little. After hording and developing these young pitchers, it makes no sense to trade them (unless to acquire a bona fide ace, which Gonzlaez is not), it time to let them hit the majors and reap the most benefit.
Mariners got Sherrill for $1.1MM, Cashman says pitching pitcching pitching we should have said nothing nothing nothing.
He thinks a lefty a reliever is a luxury, he is wrong in 2009 we had Coke and Marte, Coke didn't work in playoffs but there was another option, now It's only Logan (good but not great)
Guys, the Yankee's problem is not pitching. Despite what the media (including the NY media) keeps saying. Remember the Yanks won 97 games with Bartolo, Freddie, AJ and ineffective Hughes last year. Top 5 ERA in the league. And their loss in a best of 5 to the Tigers wouldn't have changed without better hitting in the clutch. In fact, AJ got them a win. They weren't going to beat Verlander. Noesi may surprise and Benuelas is a stud who may be majors ready later this year. Try to chill and be patient.
